I consider the work to be a visual diary that depicts my life experiences and conclusions, through symbolic imagery, texture and color to capture a particular mood. The work is a way to investigate and often expose what I feel the experience brings with it, both sides of the coin, if you will; the dark and light, the turbulent and serene, the beautiful surface with hidden layers beneath. What may start out as a personal or observed trauma, reveals itself as a dynamic and captivating depiction of the experience, that encompasses a rich and full exploration of the story, as well as an invitation to the viewer to look deeper.
You will see in the work, elements of both realism and abstraction. With this approach, I aim to embody fully, a particular outcome based on specific applied colors, shapes, lines, imagery... Each work is created with an attention to detail, from the curated collage papers imbedded into a chosen surface, the carefully selected color palette, specifically arranged composition of imagery, to the title of each piece.
What may seem to the casual viewer as a simple and possibly mundane choice, is in fact, a very intentional and purposeful decision; a complex web of choices that brings to life each work in its own unique way. As a result, this body of work is vast and varied. Allow yourself to become enveloped into each separate and distinct story, each visual diary entry, every page from my life’s book, and see if you may find yourself there as well.
